Set in the middle of production, Return to Murder (R2M) takes viewers backstage and into the editing bay of a reality show, where the line between present and past, show and business, fact and fabrication is a constantly moving target.
Tamika, 30ish, beautiful, and talented, is ready to run her own show,
So when a real crime happens at a true crime convention, she jumps at the chance to solve the mystery, get the footage, and prove her producer chops once and for all.
R2M's real showrunner, Cheryl, is sympathetic to Tamika's ambition - even supports it! But she doesn't believe Tamika is ready - and as a black woman who knows what it takes to achieve hard-won power, she can't afford to let her fail. She can't afford to fail, herself!
And she also can't let her shoestring budget and schedule be hijacked by an obvious accident that the network is dressing up as a murder for better ratings. It was an accident!
Birddog Kerrigan, the show's charismatic investigator/host (formerly a modestly successful underwear model) knows a real murder when he sees one.
And he absolutely sees one now.
.
So, while Cheryl just wants to move past it, the network and Birddog want to rewrite the whole season around it..
Which means Tamika has to find out what really happened.
Without anybody knowing.
And get it on camera.
